Sleepless…

Its one of those nights when I know that I should be sleeping but can’t and thus am sitting here of all the assignments I should be doing. At this point, life sucks. The semester is just about over, all I have left is one Geography essay (which I haven’t started and is due Monday), one Math assignment, two Education Math assignments, two Geography labs, and a history quiz or two. Not even mentioning the studying I will need to do for my finals but, those aren’t until April.
This semester I have been able to go into the schools and have been teaching math to students once a week. It’s really exciting and I enjoy seeing the students when they truely understand a new concept but the experience is teaching me that I don’t think that I would be able to teach at the middle years level as they never seem to be sitting in their desks and they are never working on something productive, I guess I just would like more structure in my room.
I am yet again playing rec volleyball this semester and last night we beat the first place team in the round robin, hopefully moving our ranks up, we have decided that it is our turn to win the T-shirts!
Well I think I should probably head to bed now as the computer screen is finally making my eyes want to close!!
Late Nights and Early Mornings…A Vicious Cycle

You know when you leave that essay, assignment, project or studying until the last minute and then, all of a sudden, you are forced to stay up to ridiculous hours trying to get it done and yet trying to not make it noticable that it was a last minute scramble? Cue me right now. You know that whenever you do this, not only is your grade lower than it probably should be but you are also a lot more tired for the rest of the week (possibly more depending on your plans and schedule for the weekend) and you always get to that point where writer’s block crossed with extreme boredom, anger for leaving things until the last minute and the want to give up and go to sleep happens. For me this is usually about 1:30am and guess what time it is as I write this post…1:34am. Its like students, especially those attending university, like to inflict themselves with this self-torture and really, I’m not sure why, even though I am guilty of it too. Why don’t we get our butts in gear and get things done ahead of time?? Well I guess some of us do and those are the ones who pull of ridiculously high marks in all their classes all the time and the rest of us resent them while secretly envying their ability to be organized. Back to my question though…what do we enjoy putting ourselves through hell? We drink coffee and energy drinks to keep awake but our concentration keeps going down and, when you look back at that paper you wrote, you can see how you just really wanted to end it and go to bed as the quality slowly decreases. I’m sure that our professors know that we left it to the last minute, how could they not? But then again maybe they understand. They were undergrad and graduate students at one time too, pulling all-nighters and doing things at the last minute. Or at least that’s what I like to think, they were most likely the organized ones who always handed things in early for some ridiculous reason.
I guess all I really want to say is…I’m at that stage and I’m going to give in and try to finish it in the morning (good luck to me on that one) and, for the rest of the week, I will be extremely tired…..excellent!
Well, as of today, I have been to every one of my classes this semester once. I’m pretty pumped about this semester as my classes all seem to be really interesting and I like my profs thus far! Tomorrow promises to be a great day as it is University Celebration Day or, in other words, cancel school to have beer gardens and live music on the campus green. Hey, I have no complaints! I must say though, its nice to be back to school and see faces I haven’t seen in a long time, it makes me happy. The only downside to the beginning of school this year is the nasty head cold I have that makes it look like I am or was recently crying because my eyes are running non-stop as a result of my plugged nose…how I love being sick! I guess its lots of vitamins for me for the next little while until I can get over this. I’m blaming my friend for trying to get me to go skinny-dipping last week, thats my story and thats how its staying!!! Haha! Anyways, I’m off to have a nap and try to sleep some of this sickness away!!!!!
So I, being the genius that I am, left my 7-12 page geography paper until the last night to start, research and everything. I must say this is a new low for me as I have never been this bad with such a major assignment! Its worth 20% of my grade and I am really rather upset with myself that I have left it this long. I even resorted to drinking energy drinks which, is the main reason why this post is being written, it is the middle of the night, I have finished my paper and I am still wide awake. I must admit I’m not so sure if this is a great trade off, the awakeness now for the paper being done but I guess I will know for sure when I get the paper back and I get to see the mark I got on it, a good mark will make this worth it. But I will not make this a habit, I will never survive like this, I don’t care if “that’s the way university students live”, I just CANNOT do it!
Unfortunately, I have also left a History paper to the last minute, as in it is due on Thursday and I am going to have to do some hardcore research for it, that I also haven’t started yet, I’m thinking that I am just a little bit screwed this week for sleep, I can’t wait for the weekend when I will hopefully will be able to catch up!
So I am in the middle of writing a paper for my Indigenous Studies class and decided that I was in desperate need of a study break and thought this would be a good way to get my mind away from my research for a bit!
This week is a rather exciting one for me. Not only am I going to Against Me! on Wednesday but one of my friends is the drummer for the opening band Things Change so I’m really excited to go and see them play and have such a great experience. Also on Friday, I am going to one of Ariel Mura‘s shows at the Exchange which should be good and I believe that it might be the first that is not just acoustic songs so I am extremely excited to hear some of the new songs that are not posted on their Myspace page!
Well I should get back to writing….later!
Well it has been a long time since my last post, like just about a month, but I have been rather busy lately. Between midterms, assignments and research papers paired with work and recreation volleyball, it seems like I barely have a minute to myself these days, and today I am spending that time writing to you!
Over our Reading Week, I went to Edmonton with a couple of friends which turned out to be quite the experience. We got up early on the Wednesday to get to the airport and on the plane, and once we were in the air, we circled Regina about four times before landing and being told that our flight was canceled. This was not very good at all for us as we could not get to Edmonton before Friday morning which was rather depressing and would not work as we were to be coming home on Saturday at about lunch. So, in order to save our trip, we took the bus to Edmonton. It ended up being a very interesting experience and I’m a little glad that is how it happened as we have a great story to tell from our break to our friends.
Us trying to figure out how we are going to get to Edmonton after our flight was canceled.
Our volleyball team this semester, Richard Simmons’ Team of Great Skill, is doing really well in the round robin play but I think that we are the only team to have had three teams default when playing us. I like to think that they are just that intimidated by us! Haha!
Other than that, all I really have to say is that Ariel Mura has a show at The Exchange in Regina on March 28 which is open to all ages so get some friends together and come out and support her!
Okay so, maybe that is a bit of a lie, I have a math lab in a couple hours but I don’t really consider that a class, its more o less a time to brush up on your skills. I am very happy with my classes this semester and am VERY happy that I switched my minor from science to social studies because, call me a geek, I was very interested in the material when I was reading my history textbook last night and my Indigenous Studies class is very interesting for me. Also, I’m not on the campus from 9-5 everyday anymore so its a lot easier to get my homework done as I have all afternoon off (minus Fridays for previously stated reasons) and I can go home for a nap!!! Haha! I like sleeping… Anyways I’m feeling rather optimistic for the coming semester and hope these feelings continue on for the next couple months!
Here is a great Christmas video I found on YouTube from the same group who sang the Facebook song:
Well there are only five days until Christmas and I must say that I am pretty pumped! My family is going to Calgary to visit our family and friends which should be a really good time!
Oh! I changed my minor!! Yay!! No more taking science classes for me! (As you can tell, I’m a little bit excited!! Haha!)
