Mandatory Late Marks for Students

It’s official, the Minister of Education for Saskatchewan has decided that deducting marks for late assignments and for plagiarism will be mandatory by a direct policy from the government. CBC news published this article about the future changes. Read the article, read the comments. What do YOU think??

Ariel Mura Updates

I have three updates regarding Ariel Mura today, one good, one bad, and one that doesn’t really fall into any category.

First with the bad. (It’s always the best to end with the good news!) Apparently the U.S. border patrol consists of idiots. Unfortunately, they denied Ariel Mura at the border and thus, any shows planned in their Western Canada/Northwest U.S. Tour that were on the state-side, have been cancelled. Well not completely cancelled, the other bands are still playing and I highly suggest that you go and check them out if you live in the area as I’m positive they will be good shows.

Now with the doesn’t really fall into any. If you are living in or around Toronto, or are just visiting during Indie Week, you have a chance to see Ariel Mura perform live! She was chosen as one of 80 bands from around the world to play and compete to win a chance to play in the Indie Showcase in Ireland in 2009. If you are going to be around definitely go, place your vote, and show your support as it will be greatly appreciated. This would be an amazing opportunity for the group to play in front of many industry representitives and to spread their music further.

And now for the good. Have you been wanting to show your support for Ariel Mura in a more direct way? Well now is your chance! A Street Team is being started to help with spreading the word and running the shows (ie. working the door, handing out stickers, etc.) and volunteers are needed in all cities/surrounding areas.  Each show in your area will consist of about 3-4 hours of time (although the more Team members, the less time one has to put in) and for each show that you help out for, you will get free admission…I would say that is a great deal! If you would like to help out in your city/area, send them an email.

Back to the Books

Tonight marks the end of the first week back to school. I’m really excited for this semester as I think I will enjoy all of my classes and the profs all seem to be pretty good ones. Heck, my Anthropology prof was talking about how to cook a dog today if you ever want to try it! It was a little disturbing but speaking in the context of different cultures and therefore cultural foods, it was very valuable and, as unaccepted as it is in Western culture, that is how things are done in parts of the world. The fact the the subjects that I am taking are also things that interest me a lot will also play a major factor in how much I like the semester too though! I must say however, that  seeing the kids (I will call them that only out of habit) that are a year younger than me (as I refer to them “little kids”) around the school is weird and makes me feel kind of old…the jury is still out as to if that is a good thing or a bad thing yet……..

Olympic Glory

I’m usually not one to watch a lot of television, with working, school, and trying to stay active but I must admit, the Olympics have me hooked! Between the 8 gold medals for Phelps and the amazing running capabilities of Bolt, I am in absolute awe. I watched the men’s triathlon tonight and was literally jumping up and down yelling at Whitfield to run faster, a moment that would have looked rather odd to someone unaware of what I was watching. I just find it amazing that the world can come together and celebrate human achievement in general in the various sports. Sure there are the accusations of countries using various drugs, etc. to improve their athletes results and, granted, some of them have been true, but in general, the world comes to celebrate human achievement during the Olympic games. I guess the whole thing just gives me a little bit more faith in the human race getting along as it seems it is impossible to get along in anything else with the war in Iraq and the recent Russian invasion in Georgia. Well, thats all that I had to say so I guess I will close with a GO CANADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We the Kings

This is going to be the first post in a series of posts (which may or not be in a logical order) about the various bands from Vans Warped Tour. This post is going to focus on We the Kings, a band originally based out of Bradenton, Florida. The group consists of four members: Travis, Hunter, Drew and Danny. Their show is high paced as Travis, the main vocalist, took on a monkey-like attitude and was hanging from the crossbeams on the stage after climbing on various speakers in order to get to a height where he could reach them. To top it off he continued to sing in this rather peculiar position. Check out their MySpace and their video(s) on Youtube and show these guys some love!

Relay for Life

The girls on our team at the end of the night.

Friday night I participated in the Relay for Life in Regina and let me tell you it was a VERY interesting and fun time! My team had everything set with our campsite at the Parliament building set up to handle all sorts of weather (a good thing considering it rained pretty hard for a while) and more than enough food to feed us all night! The night went very well and our team raised over $2200 for cancer research. The entertainment was awesome and the people were pumped and happy to be out to support a great cause. Congrats to all who participated and thank you to everyone who supported the various teams participating!

Numa Numa

Many people are familiar with the “Numa Numa Song” and the video that goes along with it. If not, click here to watch the original video. In response to the immense popularity of the video, a contest was created to see who could come up with the best video for the New Numa song. The official winners are located at the contest’s website however I thought I would share my favorite of the videos, the one I believe should have been first. I have to really admire the talent of the artist in this video. I hope you all enjoy the video as much as I did!
